Copy And Move Your Files Faster With TeraCopy.

Software November 13th, 2007

I’ve been using this program for a while now and i love it! TeraCopy is a program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed. It allows you to Pause and Resume file transfers. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times while Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer. File list makes sure that all the files that are copied are listed and if any errors found during the process, it will be listed there. Also, it’s seamless integration with Windows Explorer allows you to keep working with files as usual.

TeraCopy is available both as a Freeware and a Paid version, but the freeware contains all the features that are required by a Home user and can satisfy one’s need.

You can download TeraCopy Here.

How To Move Installed Applications To Another Location

Software, Tips & Tricks November 12th, 2007

Consider this scenerio: You have some programs installed in drive C and now the drive is running out of space. You wish to reallocate the programs to another drive but cut-pasting the programs won’t work. You don’t even have the setup files of those programs, so you can’t reinstall them on another drive. What will you do? Enter Application Mover

Application Mover is a tool that relocates installed programs from one path to another on your hard disk. Application Mover takes files found in the path specified in the ‘Current Path’ field and moves them to the ‘New Path’ path. Application Mover scans the windows registry for references to files located in the ‘Current’ field and changes those references to the ‘New’ path. Application Mover also scans all windows shortcuts in the Start Menu and adjusts path references to the new program location. Finally, *.ini and Install.log files present in the original program path are checked for strings matching the old path location. If found, these strings are changed to the new location. Confirmation dialogs are available if you enable the ‘Confirm changes’ checkbox . If a file is ‘busy’ and cannot be changed to the new location, a reboot prompt is offered. Pending changes are then completed after the reboot.

You can download the application Here. The downside though, that this is not freeware.

How to Set A Video Background in Windows XP and non-Ultimate Vista.

Tips & Tricks November 11th, 2007

here is a cool alternative to adding video to your desktop background without hogging system resources and memory. It will work in any Windows Vista version and Windows Xp. Here’s how it goes.

1. Download and install VLC Player for Windows.
2. Run VLC Media Player, go to Settings -> Preferences, expand Interface and click on wxWidgets. In the bottom right corner of “wxWidgets interface module” window, click on “Advanced options” to show advanced settings. Then uncheck the Taskbar check box in order to remove VLC Player title from the taskbar while the program is running. Check Systray icon if you want to enable Systray (system tray or notification area) icon instead.
3. Next, expand Video -> Output Modules and then select Direct X. In bottom right corner of DirectX Video Output window, check the Advanced Options check box in order to see all the settings available.

4. Check and tick the “Enable wallpaper mode” check box.
5. Then, select Playlist and then check or tick the Repeat current item checkbox.
6. Press “Save” button when done.
7. Open and play any video that you would like to set as motion wallpaper in VLC Media Player.
8. If the video hasn’t yet been set as desktop background, right click on the video and click on “Wallpaper”.
9. The video or movie will be set as if it’s DreamScene motion desktop background wallpaper.

Now important thing is to configure VLC Player to loop the video . This can be done by simply clicking on View then select Playlist. Now highlight the video that is playing and by clicking on Repeat One or Repeat All button .

But make sure the video format is supported by VLC Player such as MPEG, AVI, MP4, WMV, FLV (Flash Video) and etc. If it isn’t simple convert it to the above files.

Another alternative is BS.Player. Just download and install the BS.Player. Run BS.Player and open your favorite movie or video clip that you would like to set as desktop background.
Then right click on the video playing on a window, and select “Desktop mode” on the options menu. Alternative, you can just press D shortcut key. Wow, your desktop is now playing video, without interfering with other desktop features.

How To Create Art From Old Hardware.

Light Side November 9th, 2007

This is how you properly recycle old computer hardware.

A dinosaur made up of motherboards and other peripheral devices

A fish made up of motherboards, cds, and harddrives

A motorcycle made up of hard drive pieces

A keyboard shoe

An old mouse as toothbrush holder

A chair made of CD’s

Like old hardware gets its final place at electronic dumps, few of the webhosting cheap services may be a matter of past as stated in the online web hosting review journals. This is especially true for the close rivals in email hosting. Although not comparable to any of the best email hosting providers like Yahoo or Google, anhosting occupies a midway position by providing customized services like a dedicated server to a multi-sized business community.
